THREADS by Sanctuary Queer Arts
Sanctuary – where strangers are drawn together, pulled towards a place of safety. Safe to question, safe to dance, safe to find their true authentic selves and the threads that connect and unite a community in their desire to exist freely.
Threads is a film devised and created by Sanctuary’s National Queer Young Company, first premiered in September 2021 at the inaugural Sanctuary Showcase.
From September 2020 to August 2021, Sanctuary engaged with ten LGBTQIA+ identifying artists from across Scotland, aged 18-25, to begin to creatively explore what ‘sanctuary’ means to them.
Working with award winning filmmaker Ania Urbanowska and Sanctuary Co-director Fraser MacLeod, the Young Company film captures and celebrates this year of queer creativity and togetherness.
The film is followed by an exploration of Sanctuary and the implications of having a ‘safe space’.
Produced by Sanctuary Queer Arts and screened as part of Dumfries Pride Fringe. The What If? Film Club is kindly supported by DG Climate Hub.
